The Subway Station Series

I started working on the Subway Station series when I was looking to extend my imagery beyond abstractions of nature. I was interested in inclusion of artificial colors and new elements in my work.

Previous work had been about journey, both over the sea and over the earth. This Subway Station Series is also about journey, but the journey is through our own man made environment.

I was drawn to the subway station for many reasons. It is a place of departure and arrival. The sense of humanity is felt there, whether the space is empty or full. The atmosphere is quiet and noisy, light and dark.

The references are both psychological and metaphoric. The pulse of the space connotes life and journey.

Creating the subway station series has been a journey for me into life’s meanings, the integrity of our journeys and the sacredness of the spaces through which we travel.
