Fog & Life
Over the years I have frequently returned to using grays exclusively.
Here I am exhibiting nine new gray works from my fog series.
These were done while living with fog for several weeks and
realizing that fog itself is a metaphor for life. Often alluring,
misty, gentle and introspective, it can also be somewhat
moody, confusing and/or dangerous. Working with the grays
inherent in this abstract series gives me, as a painter,
good reason to focus on a quieter introspective mood, while
still emphasizing basic brushstrokes, and structure.
The abstract color pieces that I entitled Maine 1-8 are an abstract
depiction of the softer side of a summer in Maine. Warm sunny
yellows, golden yellow beaches, green hills, forests and gray
rocks, all give off gentle sensations. The soft colors permeate
the days for a certain period of time. I articulated this mood
through use of brushstroke, lighter acrylic washes and softer
hues.
