Exploration of Floating: In Places
and Spaces
In the acrylic on canvas paintings created in 2002, and in the
mixed media works, created in 2003, I intended to involve my
viewers in a dialogue with the bold forms that float throughout
each surface. The hard edge forms that recede and project into
the viewers’ space offer movement and ambiguity.
Soft grainy washes and glazing, along with a highly saturated
palette, makes a surface that is textural. I frequently juxtapose
this texture with matte areas of pigment.
The emotional content of these bright paintings ranges from the
playful, to meditative, to highly charged.
Realities are intentionally ambiguous as the forms come forward
and recede. Specific places are referenced, but meditative places
of the mind are also present in these works.
As always, my viewers’ opinions are of importance to me
and I value their personal interpretations of these paintings
