In Color & Black & White
I continue to be interested in the immediacy of a direct brush
stroke. Often the art is directly inspired by place, as in Untitled
(Fiji), the Pele’s Brush (Hawaii), and the Dwell Series
(city dwellings). But, the main theme of the work can just be
color, as is the case in Color as Structure No. 2. and Time and
Space No. 1. Either way, whether the hue is black or color, I
ask the viewer to realize the importance of hue as a very strong
and important element in a work.
All the works contain a definite structure that is achieved through
the use of color, pigment overlays and spontaneous brushwork.
